Dr. Ayer earned her medical degree at Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, NC in 1998. She subsequently studied internal medicine, hematology, and oncology at Emory University in Atlanta, GA graduating in 2004. While at Emory University, she cared for patients at Grady Memorial Hospital and worked frequently in the Comprehensive Sickle Cell Center there. She developed her passion for sickle cell while working in this center. After moving to Tampa, Florida in 2004, she opened her own hematology and oncology practice. Quickly noticing a shortage of expert sickle cell care and outpatient sickle cell services, she decide to start her own sickle cell center under the umbrella of her oncology practice. With over 20 years of experience in hematology, oncology, and internal medicine, Dr. Ayer has treated hundreds of persons with sickle cell disease providing expert inpatient and outpatient care. She provides professional care in a family environment using all the latest medical technology.
